Reading Blog 1

A book that I couldn’t put down was called The Giver. I couldn`t stop reading it because i wanted to know how it ended and each chapter made me want to read more to see what would happen. This book makes us see what would happen if society was perfect and if everything was a perfect organized system. This book made me see that its better if our lives are not perfect and we have complete free lives. I mean it would suck to have one job for the rest of your life and get matched with a wife that seems compatible. In this society there’s no such thing as love and no such thing as true emotions. I don`t know why I like this book so much I just love the whole plot of it. My grade eight class read this together but I read it all in about an hour and a half because I loved it so much. The result from me reading this book was that I now read a lot more then I did in the past and now all I ask for on Christmas and my birthday is just a bunch of books. I enjoy books that are about corrupted governments or leadership like The giver, Animal Farm, Hunger Games, etc. I say the government is corrupted because they took away seasons, colour, music, memories, love, beauty, change, emotions, and choices. This book gets even better when the main character Jonas starts to realize how evil the community is and how much of a zombie everyone is. The part that is really disturbing is when Jonas realizes that being releases means getting a needle and you die. If you’re a certain age they kill you and if you are born a twin or have abnormal problems your also killed. If you do something against the rules they also immediately kill you. No such thing as prisons in this story. I could feel Jonas`s disgust and horror when he watched his dad kill a baby by injecting a needle through its forehead and watched as the medicine went limp they he just shoved the baby in a cardboard box and dropped it down a chute and just leave like nothing happen and he does the whole thing with a smile on his face. Poor baby had to die just because he was a twin. The main reason i love these books because there so dark and cruel. I love books that are sinister yet there disguised to seem like everything is well.
