Lieracy test

1. My strongest strategies are highlighting important informationg(I'm really good at that it really helps) When im confused by a sentence i just try to put it into my own words and face it theres alot of words that you wont know.I personally like to skim for information then i would read it closley. My weak strategies are asking myself questions about the reading not to mention that i have trouble relationg it to my own personal experiences.

My strongest strategies for newsreports are look closely at the headline and picture. Thinkof an event that relates to them. Make up the information and facts as you answer some or all of the following questions:Who? What? Where? When? Why? How? For series of paragraphs I'm good at stating my opinion at the beggining and I always have three or more paragraphs with a intruduction middle and my conclusion. For short writing task i'm good at rereading the questions over and over then i awsner them and always use deatail. I love multiple choice so it only makes sence that im good at it here are some of my strategies: First i look at the four awnsers and i'll cross out any that are inncorrect whitch i suggest everyone should do, If later on you find thats its inncorrect just go back and correct it.Oh and never, never, never, never, never EVER leave blanks just gess you might get it right! Some of my weaknesses are connecting the story to my personal experiences also once and a while i forget to space my paragraphs but i only do that rarley.Sometimes when i'm trying to the main idea i can get stumped pretty easily.

I really like how the litericy test is not a part of our course marks because i would be really worried. Personally i really hate the thought of redoing the test the folloing year i rather u just redo it whenever as long as its before graduation. I think its very helpful that now i know that universities and colleges will see that i completed it.
I really would like to know what exactly would be on the literacy test would it be on everything we learned in grade nine? In your opinion do you think i would do good on the literacy test.

Third Man Theory

Many people, both religious and atheist, report being helped to survive near death experiences by an unknown presence.Spiritual or religious people say that a divine being saved them from a near death experience while atheist see it as  a brain function. Some psychologists believe the phenomenon is a product of bicameralism. Another theory suggests the third man is a coping mechanism. Whether the third man is an angel or a survival mechanism is for people to decide for them selves. The third man helped James Sevigny after a avalanche swept him 600 m down the canadian rockies. The third man helped again when Ron DiFrancesco was trapped in a fire.

Using Appositives

Hi Sam,

Yesterday we learned a new way to combine short simple sentences in order to make longer more effective ones.

The method we used was something called "Apposition" which is a fancy way of saying 'beside.' So instead of writing: "Our teacher is Mr. Pierce. He has taught the class a new lesson on appositives" we write "Our teacher, Mr.Pierce, has taught the class a new lesson on appositives."

'Mr. Pierce' is beside (or apposite) 'Our teacher' which means they are the same thing. This can be really handy when you are reading if you realize that a phrase you don't know is apposite a word or phrase you do know.

The following examples use apposition:

1. My friend, Autumn, went to Tim Horton's with me to get some coffee.

2. Today, December 6th, we had snow.

3. My friend, Katrina McIntosh, has known me since I was 3.

5. On Sunday, December 5th, 2010, my brother, Ben, came and visited me.

Another example I used was: Stamford has won Schools In Bloom, a horticulture competition, seven years in a row.

Once you feel comfortable that you know what I'm looking for, please try writing 5 to 10 appositives of your own.

Writing complex sentences

A complex sentence is a made up of an independent clause and a dependent clause. An independent clause is a group of words that could be a sentence. e.g "I am happy". a dependent clause is a group of words that cannot be a sentence by itself. e.g "when I ski" A dependent clause can help form sentence when it works with a independent clause. e.g "I am happy when i ski." other joining words-that,who,when,but,after, for, since, through, while. Not a complete sentence: "I was hungry, than i ate dinner."

"I watched the vikings game in the afternoon"

 "I watch anime after school."

" I read while eating my dinner."

"I love to eat chocolate once a week"

"My brother loves to bug me at every moment he gets."

" I eat a lot of sweets when my parents are not around."

" I got the highest score on my test on Ecology"

     Not complete sentences

      "for awile."

     "for hours."

    "on my bed"

   " this afternoon"

Animal farm chapter 10

My opinion of the book after we finished reading Animal Farm is that it was a fantastic read. I thought it was very interesting how the pigs slowly changed more and more into human beings. I personally like the idea of talking animals. It was very suspenseful because I wanted to read that the animals were slowly getting suspicious of the pigs. I also liked it because in truth us human beings are like the pigs, like our intelligence,us humans are smarter then any other creature on earth and we take advantage of it by abusing all the other creatures and doing what ever we want. Humans also tend to be greedy like how the pigs kept reducing the animals rations and the pigs ate like kings, not to mention that the pigs got to drink whiskey which only humans drink whiskey so basiclly the pigs always had luxury and the animals were like slaves. So to sum it up the pigs went on a huge power trip when they were in charge of the whole rebellion.

My only question is what happened when the animals saw the pigs at the poker game with the humans?

2.Boxer sustained his injury because he wanted to work harder and get the windmill done.

4. To make the animals feel better squealer said that the van had said horse slaughter and was property of the knackers but was bought by the veterinary surgeon who had not yet painted the old name out.

5. The pigs bought another case of whiskey and i think the pigs got the money by giving boxer to the horse slaughter.

2.Do you think snowball is the one who destroyed the windmill? Why do you think that?

A:I think snow ball didn't destroy the windmill because there was a harsh gale the night when the windmill was destroyed and i think the gale knocked it down. There may have been pig tracks leading to the hedge where snowball was last seen, but i think napoleon made those tracks because he thinks snowball is his enemy and rival and is trying to make everyone else  agree.

Lightning Rod

1. During the dialogue between Raquel and the computer, Raquel had the power because he could decide if he wanted to read the message or not or he could have walked away, or even turn off the computer.

2. Raquel objects to the responsibility given to her because she thinks its to much information and she has a life(school, computer games, watching T.V). I believe that Raquel will not be able to ignore the responsibility because she probably be learning it all without her even knowing it. Raquel will probably never forget this experience with the computer so she might listen and follow through on her responsibility.

3. Making inferences and asking questions made me understand the plot and what exactly the dialogue between the computer and Raquel meant and how this could affect Raquel's future.

What's Courage

T: In my opinion there are different types of courage and everyone shows courage at some point.

     1. We show courage when we assert our individuality

    2.  Believe in your beliefs not someone Else's

   3. People show courage when they stand up for publicly against different forms of injustice.

Do dress codes make high schools better places?

In my opinion dress codes make high schools better places. When it comes to the students safety parents and teachers will do whatever they can to keep them safe so they agree with my opinion. When it comes to religion the District Board Of Niagara, parents and everyone with the same religious culture. Parents also can agree with me because they would not there children to become exposed to these people who wear tiny skirts and shirts that show a lot of cleavage.

Parents that have daughters who where short skirts and shirts with a lot of cleavage are in danger. If a pedifile saw a girl like this he might take any chance he can get to kidnap her. If a girl like this walked into high school all the guys would would probably harress her which can cause a lot of stress on the girl. Skirts and shirts that show a lot of cleavage should worry because they can be in a . Also this sort of clothing is very uncivilized and would probably make the girl look desperate. But with dress codes you can take away all the highly inappropriate clothing and that makes them where something a lot more appropriate and more civilized which makes your daughter safer.

Religion is another important reason why dress codes make high schools better places. Religious teachers and students would find it highly inappropriate if you go around with shirts that say words that are offensive to there religion or words that mock or make fun of the religion. It would cause students to complain and it would starts fights and people would get hurt which no one wants. With this would come to more vandalism fro people getting suspended because they were fighting and Parents making a uproar. It would be absolute chaos! It would make it much easier if people wore clothing that would not make people pick fights or start to vandalise school property. To stop all this all you have to do is follow the dress code!

Parents would absolutely freak if her son or daughter was exposed to people wearing mini skirts and shirts that had swear words or shirts that showed way to much cleavage. It would make your daughter think its cool and if your son or daughter saw kids wearing the swear words they would start to say them all time which leads to teachers catching you using inappropriate language and they get sent to detention. When your exposed to these kind of clothing its almost as if your attitude changes. You start to pick fights and you could even start to smoke or skip class. Face it people when some of us dress we change our attitudes and personality. So to stop all of this negative exposure take my opinion and follow the dress code.

~Are Blogs Helpful In English Class?~

In my opinion I think blogs are very useful in English class. The students that are in my English class also agree that blogs have helped them in many ways. Teachers have even said that blogs help them and they use them a lot. Last but not least, I'll discuss why blogs help the environment.

For most students writing is a pain. There writing is messy, the paper is crumpled because they erased there mistakes to hard. That's why its a lot better to type things out not to mention typing is a lot quicker then writing. Some students tend to forget there English work at home or they lose it and they don't know where it is, but if you write it out on a blog you can just paste it on your blog as soon as your finished so you know where it is and you don't need to worry about getting in trouble by your teacher.

Blogs are sooo much better for teachers it makes there job a whole lot easier. Students might put there homework on the teachers desk or the counter at the front of the class and it gets buried by paper so the teacher has to go looking for it and that's where the blogs come in. All the teacher has to do is log into a computer and look at the students typed work so the teacher doesn't have to go around moving papers and books to try to find some students work. Remember when i said typing is easier for the students? Well its also good for the teachers because when a students has messy writing it makes it hard for the teacher to read it so its difficult to mark. Blogs allow the teacher to read a blog easily without stopping to figure out what a word or sentence saids.

Global warming is really affecting our environment with climate change and the melting of the ice in the North Pole. One factor that cause this is the amount of trees we clear cut everyday. Humans waist paper everyday for no reason and that's a waste of a tree. Trees make oxygen which is needed for animals including us humans. So every time you waist paper, you waist a tree and you waist our oxygen. Blogs however don't use paper at all its all virtual. When you write on a blog its clear, neat and its easier then writing on paper. So don't waist a tree get a blog.

The Need To Heed Avalanche Alerts

1. It should not be a crime because its a free country and you get to chose to not do it. The athor saids "This is a free country and we are not likely to ever outlaw people from entering dangerous wilderness areas."

2. The main arguments is that theres a risk of you dying in a avalanche The author said "14 Canadians die in avalanches every year on average." The people are carless of the signs and they think that nature won't turn on them. Just because they beckon us with their beauty they should repel us with there peril.

3. By warnings the author ment the avalanche warnings telling you this is a avalanche area enter at your own risk.

4. I belive people from Sparwood would feel bad for the lost lives, but the people would know it was there fault for ignoreing the signs and not taking the warnings serioisly. So they would think the people who died must of been pretty stupid, but the people would not find this suprising scince people have died by avalanches before.

5. When i think about it helps me understamd better because they have everything in order so its not all over the place.

~Courage~

Some people may ask what is courage but even I don't fully understand it, however I do know that fear and courage work together. If you fear you’re going to lose something dear to you it gives you the courage to do so because you're afraid. So I believe that you need fear to generate courage.

~Characteristics~

It was a beautiful morning in the city of Toronto today. The sun was shining the birds were singing.....And of course there was still a teenage girl who still sleeping and was going to miss her bus then she would have to rush out of the house usually forgetting her homework and run to school. This was her daily routine every day. This lazy girls name is Sprite Crush. When the sun hit her face she woke with a start and fell of of bed leaving a huge bump on her head. Sprite cursed under her breath and ran downstairs and her face was completely in shock it looked like she went frozen stiff. “Sprite stop staring at the clock and hurry up!” Sprites mom shouted at her still frozen daughter. “I can’t be late today!!” Shouted Sprite over her shoulder as she ran upstairs and put on whatever clothes she gets to first. Sprite rushes down the stairs and yells at her mom love you but she was way gone by then.

“Sprite where were you?” Asks Kiwi as soon as Sprite entered the school grounds. “My alarm clock didn’t go off today.” Sprite muttered to Kiwi. “That’s what you say everyday like seriously if you keep this up you’re going to be in big trouble dude.” Kiki warned. “I know Kiwi.” Spite sighed. Math class was bring as it usually is. And of course she got insulted on her hair since Sprite forgot to brush it. “Nice hair Sprite it goes well with your ugly face.” Sneered a teen named Jessica. “ Jessica thinks she little miss perfect, she thinks she owns the school and everyone in it.” Sprite thought angrily to herself. “Oh ya, and Sprite?” Called Jessica just as about Sprite was about to leave. “What Jessica?” answered Sprite with a acidic tone. “I didn’t know your parents were such wannabes that they never told you how to dress right.” Laughed Jessica while she pointed to Sprite’s, apparently backwards shirt. Sprite sighed; she was used to being insulted by now. Oh how she wanted to punch Jessica’s lights out. The image brought Sprite satisfaction and the thought of hearing the satisfying crunch of Jessica’s nose breaking made her day.

“Are you all right Sprite?” Kiwi asked as they started to leave the school grounds. “Kiwi doesn’t Jessica give you a hard time?”Sprite asked. Kiwi laughed so hard it scared the wits out of Sprite. “No she doesn’t probably because my dad is Jessica’s fathers boss so she wouldn’t want to make her dad lose his job. Isn’t it stupid? But you know what Sprite? She’s such a loser by picking on people. Don’t let her get the best of you it will just bring her satisfaction.” Sprite gave Kiwi a smile. “Your right Kiwi thanks that really helps and you made me decided not to punch the lights out of that Spoiled brat.” Sprite laughed with Kiwi. “Kiwi you’re such a good friend you always know the right thing to say.” Sprite hugged Kiwi. “Thank you Sprite I would do anything to help out a friend.

~A Story About a boy who showed courage.~

It was a beautiful summer day in Winnipeg, Manitoba today
It was a beautiful summer day in
and all of the children were out on the street playing games and running through sprinklers. I’m going tell you a story about how a boy no younger then twelve showed courage and attempted something amazing and achieved it. Now let the story begin with a boy called Atam Phair "Hey Atam want to come over for lunch? My mum is making her famous turkey sandwiches." Asked Harry. "All right Harry, but can Lilly come? My mum and dad are out some I have to watch her."Replied Atam.

Harry groaned, Lilly is so annoying she complained about everything and loved to tattle on them not to mention that she’s a complete crybaby, but I guess it can’t be helped since she’s only six. "Big brother I don’t like turkey!" Shouted Lilly from the park sandbox. "Its turkey sandwiches or you go hungry all right Lilly" Atam told Lilly. "I DON’T WANT SANDWICHES!!" Yelled Lilly who started to cry loudly. "Lilly stop crying for no reason and don’t yell at me I'm in charge!" Atam scolded Lilly. "I HATE YOU BROTHER I NEVER GET ANYTHING I WANT!" Lilly screamed at the top of her lungs and ran out of the sandbox and bolted towards home.

"Lilly get back here!" Atam called after his little sister. " Should I go Atam? We could hangout later after you get this mess settled out." Harry said to the furious looking Atam. "No Harry I’ll come and Lilly will to she needs to learn she can’t always get what she wants." Atam spoke quietly. "I don’t know what she was yelling about last time I checked she always did get what she wanted."Harry replied and patted Atams back. "Lets go get her Harry she has to apologise big time." Atam seized Harry’s hand and bolted after Lilly. "BIG BROTHER HELP ME!!" Atam and Harry both heard Lillys voice but they didn’t know where she was. " Lilly where are you?! What’s wrong?!" Shouted Atam in a very worried tone. After five minutes Atam and Harry finally found Lilly, expected it wasn’t what they expected to see. Lilly was in the middle of the road and by the looks of it she twisted her ankle and couldn’t move.

Atam stared at a horse pulled carriage in horror, it was going to hit Lilly! Atam ran to save his sister he scooped Lilly up and took set her down on the side walk. "I’m sorry brother!! I’ll never ever act like that again!" Lilly hugged her brother tight and Atam his face covered in sweat smiled and hugged her back. Harry smiled and felt happy for Atam he showed courage in saving his sister or perhaps it was just fear.....

~In And Out Of Trouble~

Joey came running into the fifth grade classroom at Emerson School.  He came in ten minutes late so the teacher looked up and smiled then the teacher said "Joey" softly. Joey stopped his conversation with Aram realizing something was wrong.  Joey murmured "Uh, oh." While some students pretended to work, some giggled but they all waited for a confrontation expectantly. Joey complimented the teacher on his tie quickly before the teacher could speak. The attempt of flattery was obvious and everyone laughed even the teacher while Joey sat sat down and began to work.

~Water Slide~

The water slide is a form of entertainment and it's very popular as it's an alterative to the beach. People climb up and people slide down all day. People go down the tubes and they slide themselves down the long, bright blue plastic tubes. The young have no fear as they lay back and they go for speed, shooting out at the end into the pools.
